Meet our team:
Frances Huggett: MA (Cantab) FCA DipPFS
There were few professions which welcomed women when Frances graduated in 1965; and a woman with a husband and son was even less welcome but she became one of the few women (under 5% of the total) who qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1975. After resigning from her last job in this capacity (as Finance Director of Dawnfresh Seafoods when she disagreed with its being moved from Whitehaven to Lanarkshire in 1993) she started to look for local business opportunities. This led her to purchase 2 small financial services businesses in Cleator Moor (1994) and Egremont (1996) at a time when financial advice was becoming professionalised and it was necessary to pass exams. (which were very much easier in those days than they are now). Over the last 23 years, she has sought to change the business model. The IFA Company is no longer a seller of financial products offering little “after-sales” service; it aims to build up long-term relationships with clients. This involves regular contact, offering clients advice on all aspects of their finances, both before and after retirement. It also allows clients to feel confident that they can contact us about financial problems at any reasonable time, knowing that they will get a prompt, personalised response.
In private life, Frances likes Anthony Trollope's novels, Handel's operas and country walks with her daughter (pictured).
Lucy McKinley: MA CertCII DipPFS
Lucy has a BA in European Studies with Spanish and an MA in Business Management, both from Durham University. She joined the company in 2009 and originally worked as an insurance broker and administrator. She became a fully fledged adviser in May 2017 after gaining her Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Advice. If she had to choose a favourite subject to advise on it would probably be pensions and all the ever-changing rules surrounding them.
Outside the office Lucy is a country girl - born and bred in the Western Lakes - although she prefers sampling country pubs to walking up fells! Her two greatest passions are shoes (thanks to her Mother) and Arsenal FC (courtesy of her Father). She is also pretty fond of her nephew (pictured).
Elaine Milburn: BA(Hons)
Elaine graduated from York St. John University in 2017 with a 2:1 in Business Management & Finance and a Level 5 Certificate from the Chartered Management Institute. Elaine originally joined the company on a placement during her second year at university. She enjoyed working with us so much that she decided to come back and let us pay her after she graduated! She works as an administrator and insurance broker and is currently studying towards her Certificate of Insurance.
Having spent the first 4 years of her life in Hong Kong, Elaine is fluent in Cantonese as well as English. She started working full time, got married and bought her first house all within 4 weeks, proving that she really enjoys a challenge! She loves to travel and see the world but when she’s not jetting off she enjoys winding down at home and watching movies with her husband.
